Before you call
Try this
first.
If one of these fixes it, you just saved a service call.
- Check the thermostat setting and air filter. With the system off, clear loose leaves and debris from around the outdoor unit. Leave electrical boxes, equipment panels and coil cleaning to a technician. If the breaker trips again after one reset, leave the system off and call.
Still warm? Call (312) 934-8329.
What we fix
What usually
goes.
Most AC calls come down to one part. Here’s what we see most.
The outdoor unit hums. The fan won’t spin.
A capacitor or another electrical component may be the cause. We’ll diagnose it.
The outdoor unit won’t come on at all.
The contactor, wiring, the disconnect, or the thermostat.
It runs all day. The house stays warm.
Low refrigerant, a dirty coil, or an airflow problem.
Ice on the lines.
Airflow or refrigerant. We find out which.
Water where it shouldn’t be.
A clogged condensate drain or a tripped float switch.
Rooftop unit down?
Shops and commercial buildings too. Commercial work
We install and service Goodman, American Standard, Rheem and Carrier.
Refrigerant
Low on
refrigerant?
We recharge R-22 and R-410A systems. Refrigerant doesn’t get used up, though. If a system is low, it’s leaking somewhere, and topping it off without finding the leak buys you time, not a fix. We’ll tell you which one you’re paying for.
Before about 2010
R-22
Not made since 2020
R-22 is no longer newly produced or imported for normal service in the U.S. Existing systems can still use previously produced stock and reclaimed refrigerant. Availability and price vary. A recharge does not repair a leak.
About 2010 to 2024
R-410A
Keep repairing it
Nothing makes you replace a working R-410A system, and that includes big repairs like a compressor or a matching outdoor unit. Supply may get tighter over the next few years as production winds down.
New systems, 2025 on
R-454B · R-32
Don’t mix with R-410A
New central air uses one of these. They don’t mix with R-410A in either direction, so nobody should be “converting” your old system. More in the FAQ
People call all of this “Freon.” Same thing for this purpose.

When it matters
July is when
AC quits.
Those hot weeks are when air conditioners give out. Get a tune-up in April or May and you’re less likely to be the one calling in July. AC tune-ups
