Smell gas? Get out first.

Smell gas? Get everyone outside. Do not use switches, the thermostat or a phone inside. From outside, call 911, then your gas company’s emergency line. Call us after the emergency responders say it is safe.

Carbon monoxide alarm? Get everyone outside and call 911.

Before you call

Try this
first.

If one of these fixes it, you just saved a service call.

  1. Thermostat. Set it to Heat and a few degrees above the room temperature. Blank screen? Change the batteries.
  2. Furnace switch. There’s usually a switch on or near the furnace that looks like a light switch. Make sure it’s on. People flip it off thinking it’s the basement light.
  3. Breaker. Check the panel for a tripped furnace breaker. Reset it once. If it trips again, leave it off and call.
  4. Filter. A filter packed with dust can shut a furnace down. If you can’t see light through it, swap it.
  5. Vent pipes outside. Newer high-efficiency furnaces vent through two white plastic pipes on the side of the house. Snow or ice over them will shut the furnace off. Clear them by hand.
  6. Front panel. The furnace won’t run with its door off or loose. Make sure it’s seated all the way.

Still nothing? Call (312) 934-8329.

What we fix

What usually
goes.

Most “no heat” calls come down to one part. Here’s what we see most.

It starts, then shuts off.

Usually the flame sensor or igniter.

It hums or clicks but never lights.

Often the inducer motor or a pressure switch.

Burners run, no air comes out.

Blower motor or capacitor.

A blinking light and nothing else.

The control board is telling you a code. We read it.

It runs hot and shuts itself off.

Usually airflow: a filter, a blocked return, or a blower problem.

The thermostat and the house disagree.

Thermostats and their wiring.

Radiators cold?

That’s a boiler. We do those too, hot water and steam. Boilers

We install and service Goodman, American Standard, Rheem and Carrier.
