That’s NIPSCO’s cutoff for 2026 rebates. The paperwork has to be postmarked within 60 days of the install, and anything installed after October 31 has to be postmarked by November 30.

- Bought and installed between January 1 and November 30, 2026.
- Up to two of each per address per year. Thermostats: two every three years.
- NIPSCO wants an AHRI certificate and an itemized invoice marked paid in full.
- Checks usually take about 8 weeks. Funds are first come, first served.
- No NIPSCO rebate for furnace tune-ups. Only AC and heat pump tune-ups.

Smart thermostat
ENERGY STAR.
- 30 days. The application has to be in within 30 days of the install, or by December 31, 2026, whichever comes first. It’s the tightest deadline of the three.
- Existing homes only, not new construction. The old equipment has to come out or be disconnected for good.
- You’ll need your most recent gas bill, the itemized invoice, and the AHRI certificate.
- Replacing an old furnace that shared a chimney with the water heater? Peoples Gas requires a chimney liner.
No more federal tax credit.
The federal 25C credit for furnaces, central air, and heat pumps ended for anything installed after December 31, 2025. If you put a system in during 2025, claim it on your 2025 return (IRS Form 5695). If a quote you got this year still counts the credit, the quote is out of date.
